Joseph actually had a yard or two to work with, and he could have held onto the ball or just lobbed it up, but it is easier said than done, as it is about making a split-second decision.

West Indies are losing control of this innings now as Greaves falls at a very crucial time. The tourists have slipped from 176/1 to 198/4. Jewel Andrew is in at number 6.

OUT! LBW! India get the review right. End of a top knock by Justin Greaves. Floated up, on off and middle, it is the googly. Greaves gets down on a knee and goes hard on the sweep. The ball lands and spins away with the bounce taking the ball over the blade before pinging the batter on the crouched back thigh. A loud shout for LBW, but it is turned down. Kuldeep Yadav is interested, but KL Rahul is not so. Shubman Gill checks the height with the man standing square of the wicket on the off side. He gives it a long thought before deciding to take the review.  No bat involved, and it is three reds on Ball Tracking, with the ball crashing into the top of the off stump. Kuldeep leaps in delight and hugs his skipper as India celebrate a big wicket.

Fuller than the previous ball, on middle and leg. Justin goes for the reverse sweep again. Gets more of a top edge but it lands well in front of short third.

That brings up a MAIDEN ODI TON FOR GREAVES. The way he dealt in boundaries from the start, there was always a sense that something special was brewing. He has had issues with his right leg and has hobbled at times, but he has battled through it to bring up a well-deserved century. Hope gives the bowler a premeditated charge, looking to go back over the bowler's head. He does not reach the pitch of the ball but still swings through the line. It spins away to catch the outer half, and Shai slices it to point, where Ravindra Jadeja moves to his right and gobbles it up.

Sliding across off, on a length. Justin drops it beside the strip on the off side and hurries to the other end. Ravindra Jadeja swoops in but can't pick the ball up cleanly. Greaves moves to 99.

FOUR! Off the edge. Reddy goes fuller now, on off. Hope goes for the drive with hard hands. Gets an outside edge that races wide of the short third fielder. The keeper, KL Rahul, is up to the stumps and he stands no chance.

In and around the off stump, on a back of a length. Greaves pushes at the ball with hard hands. It squirts off the outer half to point.

Into the wicket, on off. Hope shapes up to force it through the off side but the ball stops on him. He mistimes it to mid off and hurries to the other end.

That was a very successful over for India. Kuldeep Yadav was all set to bowl, but the umpire stepped in and told him not yet, as he was off the field for some time, which means he has to wait back for at least one more over before he is allowed to bowl again. So for now, Nitish Kumar Reddy continues. 3-0-30-0 so far.

Drinks Break! Keacy Carty is the man walking back, and given how stuck his innings had become, it won't be that bad a thing for West Indies. The run rate has dipped considerably for the tourists as the Indian spinners first, especially Kuldeep Yadav, bowled with control and the seamers in Brar and Prasidh have been disciplined in their respective second spells as well. India will aim to press on further with a couple more wickets in this middle phase and seize control. West Indies, meanwhile, will be banking on another rebuilding act, and who better to lead it than captain Shai Hope, walking out at number four.

OUT! CAUGHT! This was coming as Keacy Carty was going nowhere with his innings. Carty's departure might well be a blessing in disguise for West Indies, though. Krishna steams in from over the wicket and hits the hard length, around off. Carty swivels for the pull but is hurried, and he gets it high on the bat, spooning it wide of mid on. Shubman Gill moves to his right and pouches it safely. India get their reward for keeping Carty quiet. West Indies are now 176/2.

He takes the risk of going against the turn and pays the price. The ball spins away with bounce to take the top edge, with John unable to roll his wrists over the ball. It balloons behind towards short fine leg, where Prasidh Krishna moves to his left and almost overruns the ball but takes the catch safely whilst being on his knees. FIFTY FOR CAMPBELL! This has been a long time coming for the southpaw. He scored 179 all the way back in 2019, against Ireland in Dublin, and this is the first time since that knock that he has reached 50. Shorter and on leg, John flicks it wide of square leg for a single to reach his milestone.

FOUR! Streaky, but they all count. Floated up, on leg. Campbell makes room to go inside out but one hand comes off the bat handle. The ball catches the thickish outside edge and flies wide of the short third fielder.

A mix-up but no harm done! It is the googly by Kuldeep, on a length, on off. Greaves plays for the ball that spins back in and attempts to flick it away. Gets it off the outside edge towards short third. A bit of yes and no between the two batters before they decide to cross over. The short third fielder throws it on the bounce towards the bowling end and Kuldeep Yadav whips the bails. The third umpire is called into action. The replays show that the throw was a bit wide and Kuldeep collected it from well behind the stumps. By the time Kuldeep brought the ball near the sticks, Justin got home.

Drinks Break! Needless to say, this has been a wonderful start for West Indies through their openers. Greaves and Campbell have set a strong foundation for the others to come and build on it. Greaves, still hobbling and battling the heat out there, began what was a West Indian onslaught before Campbell too joined the party. Looks like a really good batting surface, but fairly, bowling from the Indians hasn't been that threatening either. Jadeja and Dhir have managed to squeeze in a few quiet overs and they would hope that a wicket isn't far away either. And here comes Kuldeep Yadav to roll his arm over after the break. He replaces Naman Dhir.

The Indian captain - Shubman Gill opts to bowl first, saying it looks like a decent surface with a hard base underneath. He expects the ball to come nicely onto the bat under the lights. With around 20 matches to go before the World Cup, Gill says the focus is on assessing different combinations and finding what suits the team best. The weather has been up and down, but he feels the preparations have been good. Informs that they are going with 4 bowlers and 2 all-rounders, with Naman Dhir making his debut.

TOSS - It is time for the coin to go up in Thiruvananthapuram. Both the captains, Shubman Gill and Shai Hope, have made their way to the middle. The ever-energetic Ravi Shastri leads the proceedings. PITCH REPORT - Former India batter Abhinav Mukund gives his assessment of the conditions. He mentions that the temperature is in the early 30s. Informs that pitch number 4 is being used today, with square boundaries measuring 65 metres on either side and 74 metres straight down the ground. It looks like a red-soil surface at first glance, but it is actually a black-soil pitch brought in from Karnataka. Daren Ganga joins him and observes that there is minimal grass covering on the surface. He says the pitch looks hard, which should make for good batting and allow the ball to come nicely onto the bat. The West Indies skipper averages 74.1 in ODIs on Indian soil, the highest among his compatriots, including three hundreds and three half-centuries in 14 innings. He will be expected to guide a talented but still developing batting line-up through the pressure of facing India at home. Can the Men in Maroon challenge India's home dominance?
