Commentary
Well, well. A blow for the Kolkata Knight Riders before the chase has even begun. Angkrish Raghuvanshi will take no further part in the game, with Ramandeep Singh coming in as his concussion substitute. Possibly, that collision between Raghuvanshi and Varun Chakaravarthy while going for Varma's catch may have been the cause. AM Ghazanfar is MI's Impact Sub, replacing Rohit Sharma. Ajinkya Rahane walks out to open with Finn Allen. Deepak Chahar will start with the new ball. Rahane will take strike with the keeper up to the stumps. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
A tricky test awaits - The tone was set by the way Saurabh Dubey and Cameron Green started off in the Powerplay, and the good work was carried forward brilliantly through the middle phase by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, with Varun turning up despite hobbling with a toe injury. This has been a tough wicket for the batters to line up the bowlers. Given the success enjoyed by the KKR spinners, expect AM Ghazanfar to come in as the Impact Sub for MI. With Raghu Sharma and Will Jacks also present, that could potentially mean 12 overs of spin for MI. Stick around for the chase.
Tough going for MI - Rain in the lead-up to the game made it a pretty straightforward decision for Ajinkya Rahane to insert the Mumbai Indians to bat. The sticky nature of the surface made stroke-making difficult, and MI, in their quest to make the most of the Powerplay, lost four wickets inside the first 6 overs. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya both found it tough against the spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. Although Tilak got a lifeline, he could not make the most of it, while Hardik was unable to make a significant contribution either. Will Jacks getting run out only added to MI's woes. However, Corbin Bosch came through to provide MI the late flourish.
Late bashing from Bosch - 32 runs off the last 2 overs and 52 off the final 4 have taken the Mumbai Indians to 147 and given them something to bowl at. The Kolkata Knight Riders would have taken this at the start of the game, but this is still going to be a tricky chase with their season on the line.

OUT! CAUGHT! MI FINISH AT 147/8. Kartik rolls his fingers on the ball and takes all the pace off. Digs it in short and outside off. Deepak Chahar tries to sail the ball over point with an uppercut, but gets the timing all wrong and hence, there is no distance either. The ball goes straight towards Anukul Roy at deep point, who ain't dropping those straightforward chances. However, a very expensive final over as 19 runs come off it.
Well-directed short ball, on top of middle. Bosch swivels and pulls it to deep square leg for a single.
Good running! Wide outside off, full in length. Corbin Bosch drills it over the bowler's head towards long on and calls for two straightaway. Deepak Chahar obeys his partner and is committed to getting back for the second. He does get home safely by dragging the bat before the bowler dislodges the bails at the non-striker's end.
A glancing blow on the helmet for Corbin Bosch there. Not sure the physio initially picked up from the dugout that the ball had, in fact, brushed the helmet, and Bosch had to call him on for the concussion check.
FOUR! Off the top edge, but runs are runs! Tyagi bowls at pace this time. Bends his back and bangs it short on the bodyline. Corbin Bosch is hurried while playing the pull shot and gets a thick top edge. The ball clinks his helmet and lobs over the short fine leg fielder for a boundary.
SIX! MASSIVE STRIKE! Bosch is playing a blinder here. Slower ball, full and on middle. A real slot-ball by Tyagi and Bosch doesn't let it go unpunished. Gets the front leg out of the way and whips it over deep backward square leg for another biggie.
SIX! Gets a good piece of wood on that! A half volley by Kartik, on middle and leg. Corbin Bosch plays the pick-up shot and by using his wrists, he manages to clear the deep square leg fence for a six.
Kartik Tyagi (3-0-18-1) to bowl the final over.

FOUR! Important runs these, for MI! Misses the wide yorker outside off by a slight bit, does Dubey. Deepak Chahar reaches out for it and slices it to the right of the deep backward point fielder and picks up another boundary. 13 runs off the penultimate over.
FOUR! It doesn't matter how the runs come at this stage for MI. Saurabh tries the wide yorker, but Chahar bends low, stretches his arms wide and takes it on the full. Opens the bat face and slices it to the right of the short third fielder for a boundary.
Good deception from Dubey! Takes pace off and bowls an off cutter, angling across the batter. A wild swing by Chahar, only for the ball zip past his blade.
Wide yorker from over the stump, outside off. Deepak Chahar swings hard, but fails to get under it and is beaten on the outside edge. Deepak Chahar has gone upstairs for a review for wide not given. It is a fair delivery to begin with. And since Deepak didn't move across at the point of release of the ball, the wide guideline remains as it is. The front-on replay shows that there is some part of the ball inside that guideline. So the on-field decision is upheld.
Bowls it much fuller, on off. Bosch plants the front leg across and goes for a sweep, but misses and the ball deflects off his pads to short fine leg for a leg bye.
FOUR! SMASHED! Fuller in length, and outside the off pole. Corbin Bosch covers the stumps by shuffling across and drills it down the ground, to the right of long off for a cracking boundary. MI need more of these.
Saurabh Dubey to bowl the 19th over. 3-0-22-2 so far for Dubey.

Full and speared on off. Deepak Chahar clears the front leg and heaves it off the inner half to mid-wicket. The fielder dives but fails to stop it and it is parried behind to the deep for a couple of runs.
Beaten! Good-length delivery around the off stump at 142.8 kph. Chahar looks to push at it away from his body with no footwork, and gets beaten on the outside edge as the ball straightens.
Back of a length, outside off. Bosch gets on top of the bounce and punches it to the left of mid off for a single.
FOUR! PUT AWAY! Off cutter, short and just around off. Bosch stands tall, gets the ball at a comfortable height and dines on it. Pulls it to deep square leg and picks up a boundary.
Short of a good length, outside off. Bosch miscues it into the vacant mid-wicket region and by the time the fielder charges in off the ropes, they get a couple of runs.
BEATEN! On top of off, nipping in from a shorter length. Corbin Bosch tries to work it across but is beaten on the outside edge.
Varun Chakaravarthy is done with his spell, and he is off. It takes some character to turn up for your side while battling a toe injury. Finn Allen comes on as the Impact Sub for KKR, replacing Chakaravarthy. Kartik Tyagi comes back into the attack.
Varun Chakaravarthy is substituted by Finn Allen

Commentary
All eyes on Ahmedabad - Thursday, 21st May, takes us to the gigantic Narendra Modi Stadium as the Gujarat Titans host the Chennai Super Kings. And plenty is riding on that one too. GT are eyeing a top-two finish with a win, while CSK are desperate to keep their campaign alive, with defeat spelling elimination. The first ball of that game will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But our buildup begins well in advance. Until then, we sign off from here. Cheers!
KKR level it up against MI - It was MI who dominated the Knight Riders at the Wankhede earlier this season. But come this evening at the Eden Gardens, KKR have returned the favour on home soil. They stay at home as they prepare for their final league fixture against the Delhi Capitals, on Sunday, May 24th, a game that will also be the last of the league stage this season. They will know their fate by then. For the Mumbai Indians, they head back home to wrap their season with an aim to finish with a win and give their home crowd something to smile about. They play against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, 24th May, and it will be an afternoon game just before the KKR vs DC match.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - KKR's Manish Pandey receives the award for his brilliant 45 off 33 balls. Pandey says it feels really great to be a part of this setup, and KKR has been really nice and kind to him. Manish adds that he was looking to stay out in the middle till the end to see the side home, but he is really happy that the team got the points they were after at the end. Manish details that a couple of boundaries he hit off Deepak and Bumrah off his back foot were the ones that gave him a lot of confidence. Adds that it was important for him to feel like a part of the squad even though he was not featuring in the XI. Manish concludes by saying that his forte has been to contribute in whatever way he can, be it saving a single or a boundary or taking a regulation catch or a blinder, he just wants to make every ball count for the betterment of the side.
The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders - Ajinkya Rahane says the belief within the Kolkata Knight Riders camp was always there, even after the first six matches of the season. Mentions that the side had some really good discussions after the first win, and from then on, the group began to believe more strongly. Rahane credits the positive atmosphere within the dressing room and says the preparation from the support staff has been fantastic throughout. Ajinkya reveals that once Cameron Green started bowling, they wanted Rovman Powell to get in, and he has made a lot of impact. Rahane also praises Anukul Roy and Kartik Tyagi, saying both have carried confidence from their domestic seasons and performed brilliantly for the side. He is particularly delighted for Manish Pandey as well, highlighting his work ethic and attitude despite not always being in the playing XI. The KKR skipper signs off by saying that the side wants to keep taking one game at a time, with staying in the moment working best for them.
... Time for the post-match Presentation ...
KKR's bowlers outfox MI - A pitch well-suited for the KKR bowling attack made life difficult for Mumbai Indians from the outset. Cameron Green struck twice early to leave MI reeling, and though Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav offered brief resistance, MI's top four fell inside the Powerplay. A rain interruption did little to change Mumbai's fortunes as Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma struggled to get going in the middle overs, never finding the fluency to shift the momentum. The spin trio of Narine, Chakaravarthy, and Anukul were particularly impressive, conceding just 47 runs across 9 overs between them. MI never quite broke free, and while Bosch's late cameo pushed them close to the 150-run mark, it was a hugely collective bowling effort from KKR.
Pandey and Powell make it look easy - The target was never truly a source of anxiety for KKR, who simply needed one steady partnership to see them through the tricky middle phase, and they found exactly that through Powell and Pandey. The two allied for an untroubled 64-run stand that took the game firmly away from the Mumbai Indians. MI did try to claw their way back, picking up a couple of wickets to reduce KKR from 118/3 to 140/6, but by then the damage was well and truly done. With less than a run a ball needed and the groundwork laid beautifully, Rinku Singh strolled out and did what Rinku Singh does, hitting the winning runs in the end.
Ball dominating the bat - This was the case throughout the game. KKR began on similar lines as their opponents, as they lost Finn Allen inside the Powerplay, though they managed 51 runs through the restrictions. However, Rahane and Manish Pandey put together a steady alliance, navigating a new swinging ball with variable bounce against Chahar and Bumrah, before Rahane fell in the final over of the Powerplay. It was Bosch who made those inroads, eventually accounting for Cameron Green as well, reducing KKR to 54/3 at one stage.
Getting interesting in the final stretch - With three playoff spots already confirmed, the race for the fourth berth has just gotten a whole lot spicier. This win sees KKR leapfrog both DC and CSK to move to sixth on the table with 13 points, and they are now breathing down the neck of the Punjab Kings, who sit at a similar points tally.
KKR's power-hitter is up next - Rovman Powell, on the pitch and his batting plans, says that it was a typical Caribbean wicket, not a typical IPL surface where the ball slides onto the bat. He notes the ball was holding a bit and says he knew exactly how to bat on it. He explains that the idea was to target the shorter boundary and that it was far from a placid surface, with the ball gripping rather than coming on smoothly. On staying alive in the season despite the poor start, he says that is the beauty of the game. He stresses the need to keep focus on the last game of the league stage.
The captain of the Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya says it turned out to be quite an entertaining game. Feels MI were 20 runs short with the bat. He admits losing too many wickets in the Powerplay hurt them and feels that had he and Tilak Varma stayed together for longer, MI could have posted a much more competitive total. Pandya mentions that he does not mind surfaces like these, where bowlers have something to work with, especially in a season where batting-friendly pitches have often left bowlers helpless. He is also critical of the fielding effort, calling it quite poor and stressing that there is no hiding away from that. Hardik speaks about the next ESA game against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, where around 25,000 children will be at the stadium watching the game. He says the hope is to put smiles on their faces and create lifetime memories for them.
Knight Riders stay alive - How the tables have turned, eh? With not a single win in their first six games, everyone marked KKR out of the season, but here they are. Winning six of their last seven games, they have given themselves a real chance to make it through. Though it is still not very easy for them, this has been a fantastic comeback from the Knight Riders in the second half of the season. A contrasting picture for the Mumbai Indians, though. It simply has not been their season, this defeat making it nine losses this year, with a winning streak still eluding them throughout the campaign.
FOUR! KKR win this game by 4 wickets and stay alive in the playoff race. Fuller around middle and leg, Rinku Singh stays leg side of the ball and smashes this up and over mid on for a boundary.
Quicker one, on the pads, Rinku Singh pushes this towards the left of the bowler.
Tossed up, around off, Anukul Roy backs away a shade and opens up the off side. Lofts this inside out over the covers region for three runs. Naman Dhir races in from the sweeper cover region and puts in a dive to his left, but fails to get anywhere near it.
Full and a bit of away turn, on middle. Roy leans on to flick it away. Gets a leading edge but it drops safely in front of cover.
Top-spinner, around off, Anukul Roy plays the lofted drive early but gets it sliced in front of Jasprit Bumrah at backward point.
Will Jacks to bowl his off-breaks now.

Short and around off, Anukul Roy plays this late and dabs this towards the third man region for one run.
Corbin Bosch can do no wrong tonight. Anukul Roy walks in next.
OUT! CAUGHT! Corbin Bosch continues his good game as he picks up his third wicket. On a length, around the pads, going further down. Tejasvi Singh goes down on a knee and looks to swing it away on the leg side. Ends up with a top edge that is skied in front of long leg. Ryan Rickelton calls for it and races to his left with gloves on. Deepak Chahar run in from the deep fine leg fence. Deepak doesn't call for it and Rickelton ends up clattering into Chahar but holds onto a good catch. Chahar seems to have injured his left knee and grimaces in pain.
FOUR! A streaky boundary to Tejasvi Singh but he wouldn't mind a single bit of it. Hard length, around the top of off, Tejasvi Singh looks to push this down the ground but gets an outside edge and the ball races to the right of the keeper for a boundary behind the stumps.
Tejasvi Singh looks a bit rattled. Is it due to the knock he took on the previous ball, or the quality of Corbin Bosch? On a hard length and into the batter, Tejasvi closes the bat face early and gets a leading edge that drops in front of point.
Tejasvi Singh has copped it on the helmet's visor. The physio rushes out for the concussion check. Singh is fine to resume.
Overtime for the physio of KKR as he rushes out in the middle. A well-directed bumper, around off, Tejasvi Singh looks for the pull but completely misses it. The ball sneaks past the bat and hits Tejasvi Singh right on the grill.
On a length, around off, Tejasvi Singh looks to heave it away for a biggie but gets an inside edge onto the pads.

Good length, on off, Rinku Singh plays this late, opens his bat face and guides this through the third man region for a run.
Jasprit Bumrah comes around the stumps, bowls it on a hard length, around off. Rinku Singh blocks this out.
FOUR! Just a gentle push and the ball has raced to the fence for four. Back of a length, on the pads, Rinku Singh gets inside the line and just tucks this through the gap at the square leg region for a boundary. Just 14 more needed for KKR.

Oh, that could have gone anywhere. Shorter and slower, on off. Singh looks to punch it down the ground off the back foot. The ball stops on him and he is early into his stroke. Chips it uppishly but well wide of the bowler to his left. Single taken.
Tossed up, on middle. Tejasvi Singh blocks it off.
FOUR! First runs for Tejasvi Singh in the IPL. Floated up, down leg. Tejasvi attempts the sweep but fails to connect. Ryan Rickelton moves to his left but is beaten. It races down to the fence for a boundary. Rickelton believes that the ball grazed the gloves of the batter. MI review in the hope of overturning the wide call and they get it right. The UltraEdge confirms that the ball indeed went off the gloves and it lobbed past the keeper.
Loopy ball, on middle. Tejasvi Singh digs it out.
Well, well, well. MI have just made it a bit more interesting. There was a bit of mystery around the concussion sub for Angkrish Raghuvanshi. Initially, there were rumours of Ramandeep being the one. He was also seen padded up, according to the on-air commentators. But it is Tejasvi Singh who comes in to bat at number 7.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi is substituted by Tejasvi Singh
OUT! TAKEN! Corbin Bosch has pulled off a blinder. That seemed destined for a boundary. Dropped short by AM Ghazanfar, on off. Powell presses back and goes hard on the cut. He has no intention of keeping it on the ground and picks the bones out of it. Corbin Bosch reacts quickly at backward point to his right. He initially goes with both hands, but then sticks out the right hand to grab hold of the ball. It sticks in his grasp and the ball stays in even after his elbow hits the turf. Two new batters at the crease for KKR. Can MI conjure up something special?
Is that a fair catch by Bosch? The umpires have taken the review from their end and have asked Powell to wait, but he keeps walking away. Several replays come up and they are checking whether the ball is grounded. It is not with Bosch having his fingers underneath.
SIX! Not quite from the middle but it does the job for Powell. Tossed up, full and outside off. Powell drops to a knee and he has a big swing at it. He does not quite get hold of it but got enough bat on it to clear the wide long on fence.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Bumrah has just picked up his fourth wicket this season, and has dismissed Manish Pandey for the first time in T20s. But it seems like too little too late for the Mumbai Indians at this stage as KKR need just 30 runs off the last 5 overs. The door is not completely shut, MI still have their toe in it, but KKR look well placed to hunt this down from here. Rinku Singh comes in at number 6.

OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! The nip-backer does the trick for Jasprit Bumrah, and he is all smiles. Seam-up ball, on a nagging length, bowled from going wide on the crease. Pandey hangs back and is a bit tentative in defence. The ball jags back in off the surface to go through the yawning gap between the bat and the pad and hits the top of the middle stump. Pandey cannot quite see his side home. Good last couple of overs for MI. 6 runs and a wicket off the last 12 balls.
Skidding through, on a hard length, on off. Rovman hangs back for the block. The ball drops off the splice of the bat in front of backward point. Will Jacks swoops in and fires in a throw at the batting end but misses. It would not have mattered anyway as Pandey was in by then.
Drags the length back a bit and goes wide on the crease, on off. Powell stabs it down the strip.
Slips in a full ball, on off. Rovman drops it with soft hands beside the strip on the off side. He looks for a single but Bumrah gets to the ball quickly and cuts it off.
A bit into the surface, on off. Manish taps it to the right of point and gets to the other end.
Starts with the slower bouncer, on off. Powell rolls his wrists over the ball and pulls it through backward square leg for a run.
Jasprit Bumrah (2-0-16-0) returns into the attack, replacing Raghu Sharma.

Lands it on a good length, tucking the batter up for room. Pandey nurdles it straight to mid-wicket. A tidy over from Hardik. Just 3 runs off it.
Leg bye! Strays on the pads, bowled on a length. Powell's head falls over to the off side and he is beaten on the flick. A leg bye is taken as the ball goes off the pads, square on the leg side.
Nearly sneaked through! Honing in on the off stump, on a length. Powell brings his bat out in front to cover the line. The ball catches the inner half and dribbles to mid-wicket.
Wide! Slower ball attempted by Hardik but he ends up spraying it beyond the tramline on off. Powell lets it go.
Pitched up by Hardik, outside off. Powell's eyes light up as he crouches and swings for the hills. He loses his shape and miscues it off the inner half to mid-wicket.
Pandya bangs it in short, just outside off. Powell gets his hands high and swivels for the pull but the ball goes over the blade.
Hits the top of off, does Hardik. Pandey taps the ball on its head and works it to the left of backward point for a quick single.
These two are making it look like a stroll in the park. KKR need just 36 runs off 42 balls. And Hardik Pandya (1-0-11-0) is back on, replacing AM Ghazanfar.

FOUR! Cheeky and effective! At 92.8 kph, very full, on off. Powell gets inside the line of the ball and gets low to play the paddle. He plays it fine of the man at deep fine leg and picks up another boundary. 15 runs off the over. 36 more needed for KKR.
FOUR! That went to the fence in a flash! A long hop by Raghu, around off. Powell needs no second invitation. He rocks on the back foot and muscles it past extra cover for a boundary.
Sliding into the pads, on a good length. Manish pushes it to long on and turns the strike over. With this single, the 50-run stand comes up between this pair.

FOUR! Edged and gone between the keeper and first slip for four runs. Raghu floats one around off, Rovman Powell slashes really hard at it. The ball catches the outside edge of Powell's bat, and it flies in the blink of an eye past the right of Ryan Rickelton and the left of Corbin Bosch at first slip. Bosch's body weight was on the right foot, and he had no time to react.
Tossed up, around off, Manish Pandey drives this to long off and takes another run.
Raghu drags the length back but bowls it a lot quicker this time. Rovman Powell goes deep inside the crease and punches this to long off for one.

A lot fuller, around off, Manish Pandey collapses his back knee and looks to loft this over covers but gets an inside edge that deflects onto his pads for no run.
Good length, around off, Manish Pandey opens his bat face and guides this towards the right of the fielder at deep third for a couple.
FOUR! Manish Pandey is finding the fence at will now. Short and wide of off, Manish Pandey cuts this over the fielder at backward point and the ball has raced to the fence for four.
FOUR! Pitched up, around off, Manish Pandey gets right behind the line of the ball and hammers this up and over the bowler for a boundary in front of the sight screen.
A big chance goes down! Rovman Powell gets a life on 14. Slower one, into the deck, around middle and leg, cramping Rovman Powell for any sort of room to free his hands. Rovman Powell goes through with the pull but ends up getting a massive top edge onto it. Robin Minz moves to his right from deep square leg, and Deepak Chahar moves just a hint to his left from fine leg. Neither calls for it, and both assume that the other will go for the catch. The high ball eventually drops between the fielders. To be fair to Minz, he had bailed out of the catch quite early, but with him being in the peripheral vision, hesitation crept into the mind of Chahar, and he left it for Robin.
Back of a length, around middle and off, Rovman Powell gets right behind the line of the ball and keeps it out.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Despite losing three wickets, KKR are still in a very comfortable position. They are well ahead of the asking rate and another partnership is budding, between Powell and Manish Pandey. Yes, the ball has done the talking, but MI know that they aren't winning this without taking all ten KKR wickets. They will have to keep picking wickets regularly to give themselves a real chance. And this middle phase becomes very crucial. Kolkata Knight Riders need 75 from 66 balls, which is just above run-a-ball. And now then, Hardik Pandya brings himself into the attack after the break.

FOUR! Powered away! A juicy half-volley, wide on off. Powell leans back and lays into the drive. Hammers it past extra cover and the ball goes into the fence in a flash. 81 needed off 72.
NO BALL! Bosch bends his back and delivers a sharp and quick bumper, over middle. Powell ducks under it. He gets into a bit of a tangle but manages to avoid tripping over the stumps. The siren has gone off as Bosch has overstepped. Free Hit to follow.
Hits the top of off, does Bosch. Pandey plays it with an angled bat down to long on for a run.
On a hard length, on middle and leg. Rovman nudges it in front of square on the leg side for a single.
Better from Bosch. Serves the short ball at the bodyline of the batter. Powell gets his hands high to fend it down.
SIX! An effortless hit! No sighters needed. Cross-seam ball, angled in at the hips, on a back of a length. Rovman steps inside the line and picks it up over square leg for a biggie.
In walks Rovman Powell to replace Cameron Green in the middle. At the same stage Mumbai Indians were 50 for 4.
OUT! CAUGHT! Wickets off successive overs for Corbin Bosch. Cameron Green throws his head back in disappointment. This was there to be put away, but he found the fielder. Curving back into the pads, Green works this full ball to the left of deep square leg for a brace.
Very full, drifting in, on middle. Green keeps it out.
End of the Powerplay. Kolkata Knight Riders, despite losing a couple of wickets, will feel that they have won this phase of the contest as they have scored 51 runs off the first 6 overs. A bit too short and too wide as well. Pandey rides the bounce and cuts it to the right of Tilak Varma at deep backward point for a couple of runs. The 50 is up for KKR.
Pushes the length up now, on off. Green taps it off the front foot in front of cover and takes a quick single.
The skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders has to take the long walk back and the player replacing him out in the middle is Cameron Green.
OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Corbin Bosch gets the radar right and strikes. On top of off, on a back of a length, cross-seam ball. Rahane stands tall to punch it away. The ball angles in before going away off the seam with a bit of extra bounce. It takes the outside edge and the keeper, Ryan Rickelton, gobbles it up to his right. KKR are 48/2, needing 100 runs from 86 balls.
FOUR! Easy pickings! Too full, too straight on the pads with fine leg up inside the circle. Rahane does not miss out as he glances it to the left of short fine leg and it races away.
Bangs it in short, on off. Pandey wallops it to deep square leg and crosses over.
FOUR! Nicely done! Bowled on a hard length at 139.8 kph, on off. Pandey stays leg side of the ball and waits for the ball to get to him. He taps the ball on its head and angles it to the left of backward point for a boundary.

A bit of nip back into the right-hander, on a good length, on middle. Rahane jams it out in front of mid on and pinches a quick single.
Bashes the hard length, on off. Rahane drags the pull but can't get it past mid-wicket.
Angled in at the hips, on a back of a length. Pandey hops and shovels it on the bounce to deep backward square leg. They cross.

Nagging length, outside off, swinging away. Rahane tries to crunch it through the gap on the off side, but finds the fielder at cover-point.
An appeal for LBW, but not given. An inswinger on a length, pitching outside off. Rahane pushes forward to block, but the ball sneaks past the bat and thuds on the pads and deflects behind to the keeper, where Rickelton gathers it to his right. Hardik Pandya sends it upstairs. The impact seemed to be outside off here. There is no need for UltraEdge as there is a clear gap between the bat and ball. Ball Tracking shows that both impact and wickets are umpire's call. The on-field decision stays. MI retain their review.
Harsha Bhogle mentions on air that there is no confirmation yet regarding a concussion substitute for Angkrish Raghuvanshi. So there is still a fair bit of uncertainty around the situation.
FOUR! Runs away to the ropes! Not that short by Chahar. It curves in from off, and Ajinkya Rahane hops on the toes, plays the short-arm pull off the inner half of the bat to deep square leg for a boundary.

Absolute peach from Bumrah! Lands in front of off, and slants it into the batter, generating extra bounce. It lands and straightens up to square Pandey up on the back foot and whistles past the outside edge. Fantastic testing over from Bumrah. Just 2 runs from it.
Little bit short and outside off, seaming away and rearing up as well. Manish lets it through to the keeper.
This one cuts back in slightly on a fuller length. Manish Pandey lets the ball come at him and blocks it out.
Hits the deck hard at 139.2 kph, outside off, and it straightens just enough. Ajinkya Rahane rides the bounce and guides it to deep third for an easy single.

OUT! CHOPPED ON! Chahar with a wicket in the first over. Takes out an imaginary chit out of his pocket as well, pointing it at Suryakumar Yadav seemingly. A good length ball, around off. Allen gets on his toes and looks to punch through the off side but the ball is too close to his body. He goes through the shot and gets an inside edge that rattles the off stump. Kolkata Knight Riders lose Allen cheaply and are 10/1, chasing 148.
WIDE! Way too short, on off, flies over the batter's head. Allen ducks under it.
Chahar with an inward shape, at 128.8 kph, full on middle. Allen forces it to mid on.
FOUR MORE! Chahar keeps offering width outside off. Back of a length, and Allen weighs on the back foot, and spanks it to the right of the diving cover fielder, AM Ghazanfar, to pick up another boundary.
FOUR! That's been thrashed away! Shorter from Chahar, wide outside off. Allen gets into a very good position and pierces the extra cover and point gap for a cracking boundary. That went to the fence like a bullet.
Pulls the length back and curves away from off. Finn Allen plays off the back foot and steers it to backward point.
Good bit of swing for Chahar first up! Shapes away at 128.1 kph, full and around off. Rahane plays from the crease, opens the bat face at the point of contact and runs it to deep third for a run. KKR and Rahane are off the mark in the chase.
Commentary

MI slip into further trouble. Deepak Chahar comes out to the middle.
OUT! WILL JACKS IS RUN OUT! That is the last thing MI wanted, given the situation they are in. Lands it outside off, on a fullish length, Jacks carves it along the turf to deep point for a single and wants the second, but Bosch is first caught guilty of ball-watching and eventually sends his partner back. Rinku collects the ball and throws it to the bowling end. Varun Chakaravarthy collects the throw beside the stump and whips the bails off with Jacks out by a fair margin. The replays confirm the same as well. The problems just keep multiplying for the men in blue as MI are reduced to 105/7.

A shade short and outside off, and it spins back in. Corbin Bosch stays put, tries to punch it away, but ends up chopping it to the off side.
Short of a length, outside off, Corbin Bosch rocks back and chops it to point.
Loud appeal but it's going down the leg side. A touch fuller, pitching on middle and turning in. Corbin Bosch looks to flick but misses and gets pinged on his front pad.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The Mumbai Indians are in all sorts of trouble here. The KKR spinners have spun a web through this middle phase, and the MI batters have found it extremely difficult to read them. Mumbai will somehow need to get themselves to 140 from here, but they do not have much batting left in the shed. Corbin Bosch now joins Will Jacks, and it will have to be this pair to give MI something to work with.
OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! The old fox continues to weave his magic and strikes, ending Hardik's misery. Narine lands it somewhere outside the off stump and gives a bit of flight on it. It pitches and zips prodigiously back into the batter, staying evidently low as well. Hardik is pinned in the crease and tries to cut it away, but is late on the shot and the ball skids, beating the inside edge, and flattening the middle stump. Mumbai Indians are in a deep hole now, with the score reading a sorry-looking 95/6.

Play and a miss! Nips sharply away from the right-hander, full and outside off. Hardik Pandya throws everything in the tank to launch it downtown, but the ball just leaves him and zips past the outside edge.
Huge swing, but nothing doing for Hardik. Back of a length, wide outside off, nipping away. Hardik Pandya stands tall and tries to slash it through the off side, but the ball passes over his angled bat. There's a muted appeal from the bowler, but the umpire denies. Oh, wait on! Bumper, but way outside off. Will Jacks isn't bothered to offer any shot at it.
End of a 43-run stand. Will Jacks walks out to bat. There is a slight halt in play before we get going again, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi walking off the field with the physio. He seems to have suffered a cut on the fingers of his left hand. Tejasvi Singh dons the gloves as a substitute for KKR.
OUT! TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Tilak holes out and MI lose half their side. Kartik bangs it hard into the surface, short and on top of the stumps. It bounces a bit more as Tilak Varma is hurried into the shot. He tries to smash it over deep square leg with a pull, gets no timing and airs it straight to Anukul Roy stationed in the deep. A simple catching practice for him as Roy gathers it to his left, around the waist. Tilak Varma struggled for his 32-ball 20 and he walks back now. Mumbai Indians are 84/5.
Slower shorter this time, around off, Hardik Pandya pulls it down to deep square leg and gets a single.
Hardik Pandya misses his connection once again. Shortish, pitching it just outside off and angling in. Hardik Pandya awkwardly looks to have a slash at it but gets beaten on the outside edge.
Swing and a miss! Kartik Tyagi hits the deck hard, well outside off. Hardik Pandya frees his arms and looks to punch it through cover, but gets beaten because of that extra bounce.

A tad fuller, angling in, around the leg stump. Hardik Pandya misses his flick and wears it on the pad, before it rolls toward square leg.
IN THE AIR AND DROPPED! They have made an absolute mess of this opportunity. Varun Chakaravarthy is fuming at the keeper as it was his catch but there was no communication at all. Full from Varun, around off, Tilak Varma sits down to play the slog sweep, but the ball takes the top edge and goes straight up to the bowler's left. Varun Chakaravarthy is in a very comfortable position to take the catch, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi charges in from behind the stumps all the way to the bowling end and dives for the catch, colliding with Varun in the process. Varun grabs hold of the ball, but as the keeper makes contact with him, the ball pops out of his grasp. One taken.
Flat and fuller, outside off, Hardik Pandya guides it between short third and backward point and gets a single.
Short, around middle, Tilak Varma whips it to wide long on for a single.
Full and turning away, outside off. Tilak Varma attempts the reverse sweep but misses.

Shorter and at the hips. This is turned through square leg for a run.
No clue! Pushed through at 95.8 kph, full and around the off stump. Pandya thinks it is coming back in and tries to work it away with the spin. The ball lands and goes the other way, beating Hardik on the outside edge.
Shorter and across off. Tilak waits back and dabs it behind point for a run.
Keeps it full and on leg, that is defended solidly off the front foot.
Beaten! Tossed up, full and on off. Varma reaches out in front but is beaten past the outside edge due to the turn.
Edgy! From around the wicket, full and on leg. Turning away from the right-hander. Hardik leans on to flick it away on the leg side. Gets a soft leading edge through point for a run.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Well, another break. KKR have the upper hand right now, having bowled nicely with conditions working in their favour. The MI top four could last only 33 balls and it is on Hardik and Tilak to reconstruct their innings from scratch. It doesn't look like a high-scoring wicket by any stretch of imagination and the score in the 160-170 range would definitely be a competitive one. The likes of Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy have three each left, and on such a surface, they can be a menace for the batters. Let's see how these two batters approach them in this crucial middle phase. Sunil Narine to continue after the break.

Pitches it up, does Chakaravarthy, on leg and middle. Tilak Varma reverse sweeps it toward backward point.
A touch fuller now, angling away from the batter. Tilak Varma steers it towards the point fielder.
Shortish yet again, on middle. Tilak Varma mistimes his pull to the right of deep square leg and gets a couple of runs.
Short of a length to start the over, outside off. Tilak Varma hangs back and blocks it from the inner part of his willow to the leg side.
We are all set for the resumption. The two umpires and players have made their way out to the centre. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma are all set to resume their innings. KKR are starting with spin in the form of Varun Chakaravarthy. Tilak is on strike. A slip in place. Let's go...
9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) - More pleasing visuals coming from Eden Gardens as some of the KKR players have made their way out for the warm-ups. The stumps are erected as well in the middle. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma can be seen in the MI dugout. We have an official update that the play will resume at 9.15 pm IST (3.45 pm GMT), with no overs lost.
8.52 pm IST (3.22 pm GMT) - The umpires have walked out in the middle and are indulging in a detailed conversation with the head of the ground staff. The covers are being gradually peeled off. Looks like the pitch has also been uncovered. The drainage is pretty good at this venue so the resumption is not that far if rain stays away.
8.45 pm IST (3.15 pm GMT) - The umpires are in conversation with the curator. There is no rain around, which is a pleasing thing. However, the mop-up and uncovering operation is yet to start. Some of the ground staff are out in the middle and appear to be taking the blocks off the covers, which were placed to prevent them from being blown away. And there it is. The covers are now coming off. Ajinkya Rahane has had a brief chat with the umpires before walking back to the dressing room, with the resumption time likely having been conveyed to both captains.
8.35 pm IST (3.05 pm GMT) - The match officials are out in the middle, engaged in discussions with the chief of the ground staff. Hardik Pandya is also waiting in the dugout, while the KKR players have also started gathering around their dugout. The covers are still firmly in place, though. The umpires are repeatedly looking up at the skies, not entirely sure how much can be made of that in the dark, but perhaps the radar has suggested there could still be a bit more weather around.
8.24 pm IST (2.54 pm GMT) - The rain seems to have eased, with the fourth umpire no longer needing the umbrella. The entire ground currently resembles an ice rink with it blanketed in white sheets. It could still be a little while before we resume, given the sheer amount of covers spread across the playing area.
8.16 pm IST (2.46 pm GMT) - Where has this come from? The heavens have suddenly opened up, and the players are sprinting off the park as the covers are rushed on by the ground staff. Harsha Bhogle mentions on air that this shower was expected on the radar, with more rain potentially on the way as well. The good thing, though, is that here in Kolkata the entire ground gets covered, and that is exactly what is happening at the moment.

FOUR! One bounce and over the ropes! Dubey errs in line as this is too wide, on a back of a length. Pandya looks to force it away on the off side. Gets a thickish outside edge and it goes down to deep third, where the man in the deep is a bit square and he stands no chance of cutting it off.
Oh, hello! Full in length at 129 kph, outside off. Hardik dances down the track and swings to go down the ground but fails to connect.
It's like a body blow for MI as SKY walks back, just when he was looking to settle up. Skipper Hardik Pandya is in at number 6.
OUT! DRAGGED ON! The change of angle does the trick for Saurabh Dubey. Another low score for Suryakumar Yadav. Dubey switches to around the wicket and bowls it on a back of a length at 128.6 kph. This has been a fantastic start for the hosts. MI's top three are packed in just inside 4 overs and are in huge trouble now. Tilak Varma walks in at number 5 to the rescue.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! A well-judged catch by Cameron Green and the start gets even better for KKR. Saurabh Dubey has his arms aloft in delight. Dubey takes pace off and serves it full, on off. Sharma looks to go big on the leg side and swings across the line. He does not pick the change of pace and is early into the lofted hit. It goes a long way up behind mid-wicket. Cameron Green charges across to his right all the way from mid on, while Rovman Powell also goes for the catch from mid-wicket. Green has Powell in his peripheral vision, converging to his left, but he is not put off by it. At the last moment, Rovman leaves it for Cameron and the Aussie having got to the ball, holds on nicely close to his chest.
A bit of nip back in, on a back of a length, on middle. Rohit keeps it out on the leg side.
SIX! Nicely done! Fuller in length, outside off. Rohit plants his front foot across the line and hangs low. He manages to get under the ball to play the scoop over the deep fine leg fence.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! KKR get the review right and it is a double blow from Cameron Green. Cameron serves it full, allowing the ball to move away in the air. Dhir is lured into the drive and pushes at the ball away from his body. The ball goes past the bat and it is snaffled with ease by the keeper, Angkrish Raghuvanshi. KKR go up in unison but the finger stays down. Ajinkya Rahane takes the review. The UltraEdge confirms the outside edge when the ball is close to the bat. A three-ball duck for Dhir.

The giant Aussie strikes in his first over and MI's opening pair lasts just 15 balls. In comes Naman Dhir at number 3.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Expertly held by Manish Pandey. Cameron Green provides a big wicket to KKR. Angled in from around the wicket, on a good length, on middle. Rickelton gets a bit low and has a swipe across the line. A top edge is found and it is skied a long way up in the cover-point region. Manish Pandey calls for it as he moves to his left. He keeps his eyes on the ball all the way through and his head stays still right through. Even though the ball curves away from him at the last moment, he has it covered. He hangs low and dives to complete the catch.
Nearly chopped on! Green pulls the length back and keeps it outside off. Rohit gets on his toes to punch it away. Ekes out an inside edge and it goes past the leg stump before rolling away on the leg side. They cross.
SIX! High and long enough! Green delivers it on a good length, angled in, on middle and leg. Rohit presses half-forward and swings away with the angle. Gets more height than distance on it but Rohit gets more than enough bat to clear the backward square leg fence.

Sliding into the pads, on a nagging length. Rohit turns it through square leg and picks up a single to get off the mark.

All set to get underway in the City of Joy. Former Aussie captain Michael Clarke rings the bell to mark the commencement of the game. Impact Sub options for MI - Shardul Thakur, Mayank Rawat, Robin Minz, Krish Bhagat and AM Ghazanfar.

The captain of Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya, on the toss, says they would have bowled first as well, noting the pitch looks like it has been under the covers and they wanted to see how the wicket plays out. On playing for pride, he adds that whenever you represent this franchise, you want to play your best cricket and put your best foot forward. He highlights MI's long history of winning titles and says the goal is simply to represent the franchise in the best capacity by keeping their heads high. On MI's record at Eden Gardens, he stresses that it is in the past, and what matters now is turning up, playing good cricket, and enjoying the game. On team changes, he chuckles and says that he is back, adding that AM Ghazanfar is back too.
The captain of Kolkata Knight Riders - Ajinkya Rahane, on the must-win situation with two games remaining, keeps it simple, saying they want to focus on this game and play good cricket overall. He acknowledges it is about winning two from two but stresses the importance of staying in the moment. About KKR's ride in the tournament so far, he admits there were moments in the first half where they could have capitalised, but says there are no complaints. He feels the way they came back is pretty special, adding that it has always been about comebacks for this side. On the wicket, he admits that it is tough to read and feels they need to play good cricket across all 40 overs. On the team news, he informs that they are going unchanged.
TOSS - Righto, it is toss time at Eden Gardens. Both captains - Hardik Pandya and Ajinkya Rahane are out in the middle. Ravi Shastri is leading the proceedings. He says the conditions are pretty muggy out there. Rahane will spin the coin, Hardik will call. Heads is the call from Hardik. It lands as Tails. Kolkata Knight Riders have elected to BOWL first.
MI's Sherfane Rutherford is up for a chat - On what has hampered the team's progress this season, Rutherford admits that they have not put together a complete game. He notes that when they bat well, the bowling does not follow, and when they bowl well, the batting sometimes lets them down. He identifies that as one key area the team has recognised. He mentions that they are already out of the tournament but feels there is still plenty to play for, whether for themselves, the supporters, or the franchise owner. He stresses the importance of continuing to learn, adding that these things happen in cricket, and what matters is how quickly you recover and get better. On the win against Punjab Kings, he says it feels great, admitting that victories have been few and far between for the team. He adds that every win is important and that there is still room to improve, something the group has already spoken about. He says this game brings another opportunity and that the goal is to finish the tournament well. With two games remaining, he feels it is important to keep giving themselves more happiness by winning, correcting small mistakes, and trying to put together a perfect game. On whether they can make it five wins, he says that is absolutely the goal. He feels the guys are in great spirits despite a difficult season, adding that the atmosphere and vibe in the camp have been great.
Ground updates - Just a few minutes away from the toss. Live visuals show that Suryakumar Yadav, who missed out in the last game, is out in the middle going through his warm-ups, with Hardik Pandya also spotted in practice gear. He will surely play and will be back to lead MI. From the KKR camp, there is a bit of uncertainty around Varun Chakaravarthy's availability for this fixture, with the spinner seen walking gingerly.
Let's hear it from KKR's Cameron Green - On his experience across three franchises, Green says he has been very lucky to be part of three great setups. He describes KKR as an incredibly close unit, adding that it probably shows in how they have managed to turn things around. He admits that the first half of the competition was not their best, but notes they have found some rhythm now. He adds that when a group gets along really well, it holds them in a really good stead. On what took the team and himself a while to get going this season, he credits Shane Watson for making a really good point. He explains that with quite a few new guys in the team, they did not quite knew the right balance at the start of the competition. He admits it probably took them a bit too long to find it, but notes they have found it now and hopes they can carry on in the next two games. On going into the game against MI, he says they have been playing great cricket over the last five or six games. He feels they are in good form and hopes that they can continue.
PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is pitchside and begins by mentioning that there was a bit of thunder and a shower the other day in Kolkata. Points that the outfield at Eden Gardens is very quick, but the playing area is not that huge. About the dimensions, he points out a clear bias as one side of the square is 70 meters, while the other measures just 58 meters, with the straight hit being 74 meters. Michael Clarke picks up from there, observing that even if rain stays away, the humidity is high. He notes that the pitch looks dry, and on closer inspection, he observes that there is a little bit of grass, though it is equally dry. Details that the surface underneath might be a little bit two-paced in nature. He feels that for both teams tonight, it could be a case of spin to win. Says that even if it doesn't turn much, the natural variations, like the change of pace, will play a huge role. He underlines that runs have been scored here and fast bowlers have played their part, but adds that the spinners could hold the key in this game. Deep adds that the pitch should offer good carry as it looks abrasive. He signs off by stating his preference to chase here.
Dangerous with freedom - Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, have nothing to lose and that often makes them a dangerous side. Ryan Rickelton has provided fearless starts at the top, Tilak Varma has anchored the middle order superbly, while Shardul Thakur has rediscovered his knack for timely breakthroughs with the ball. Whereas Rohit Sharma has particularly enjoyed playing at the Eden Gardens, averaging a healthy 53.66, and is the highest run getter for MI overall here as well. With so many powerful performers on display, this one promises to be a cracker of a contest. Toss and teams coming up shortly. Stay tuned.
No margin for error - For Kolkata Knight Riders, it is simple tonight - win and stay alive, lose and they will join MI and LSG among the teams knocked out of the playoff race. KKR have found form at just the right time with four wins in their last five matches, driven by the brilliance of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the explosive starts from Finn Allen and the experience of Sunil Narine.
Greetings, all! A massive night awaits at Eden Gardens for this crunch clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians in the 65th match of the season. The playoff race, pride and a fierce rivalry all collide tonight under the lights, with KKR fighting to keep their season alive while MI look to sign off strongly and potentially play spoilers in the race to the final four.
... MATCH DAY ...
The great East vs West rivalry - The league stage is entering its decisive stretch, and Match 65 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the iconic Eden Gardens carries contrasting narratives. For Kolkata, this is a fixture loaded with playoff implications after a dramatic mid-season turnaround. Mumbai, meanwhile, are effectively playing for pride after an inconsistent campaign, but few teams in IPL history are more dangerous than MI when expectations are low, and freedom enters the equation. Momentum shift to the moon - Few teams have experienced a swing in fortunes quite like KKR this season. After a disastrous start that left them staring at an early exit, the Knights have rediscovered rhythm at the perfect moment, winning five of their last six matches and pushing themselves back into playoff contention. Their latest outing was a commanding win over the Gujarat Titans, powered by a brutal batting display, and it underlined a team suddenly brimming with confidence. KKR’s resurgence has coincided with a shift in intent at the top. Finn Allen has injected raw aggression into the batting unit, and his recent 93 off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans was arguably the innings that reignited Kolkata’s season. His powerplay assault allows KKR to dictate tempo immediately, particularly on batting-friendly surfaces like Eden. Alongside him, Sunil Narine remains the tactical fulcrum, and Narine’s influence on slow-to-medium-paced surfaces remains immense. KKR will also look toward Angkrish Raghuvanshi to maintain stability through the middle overs, especially if early wickets fall, and the likes of Cameron Green and Rinku Singh to provide the big finish. Finishing on a high - Mumbai’s story has been very different. Despite flashes of brilliance and occasional high-scoring victories, inconsistency has wrecked their season. Even a morale-boosting chase against the Punjab Kings came too late to reignite realistic qualification hopes. Injuries have also added to their problems, with key squad disruptions further complicating selection and balance. Writing Mumbai off completely would be a mistake. Their batting lineup still contains enough firepower to challenge any total, particularly on a batting-friendly pitch. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma possess the kind of range that can neutralize even elite spin attacks if they settle in. The bigger concern for MI is bowling control. On a ground where pace-off variations and yorkers become essential, the burden falls heavily on Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar to contain Kolkata’s aggressive top order. If KKR survive the Powerplay relatively unscathed, Mumbai could struggle to stem the flow through the middle overs. What's the pitch saying? If recent evidence is anything to go by, bowlers could be in for another punishing evening in Kolkata. Eden Gardens has transformed into one of the highest-scoring venues of IPL 2026, with first-innings totals frequently soaring beyond 200. KKR’s recent 247/2 against Gujarat Titans perfectly showcased the conditions - true bounce, quick outfield, and short boundaries that reward fearless strokeplay. Teams chasing have generally enjoyed success at the venue, making the toss potentially significant. Historical context - Historically, Mumbai have dominated this rivalry, winning 25 of the 36 IPL meetings between the two sides, including the earlier encounter this season. But recent seasons suggest the gap is narrowing, with KKR winning multiple recent clashes and looking increasingly comfortable against MI’s attack. Form (Last 5 completed games, recent first) - KKR - WLWWW | MI - WLWLL. Prediction time - On current momentum and considering conditions at Eden Gardens, KKR enter as slight favourites. Their batting looks better suited to the surface, and their spin attack offers more variety in the middle overs. Mumbai’s experience and individual brilliance make them dangerous, but unless their senior core produces a near-perfect game, Kolkata appear to hold the edge in a potentially high-scoring thriller. Who do you think will grab bragging rights in this encounter?

OUT!
