Tanveer Sangha
Tanveer Singh Sangha was born in Sydney to Indian immigrant parents hailing from near Jalandhar, Punjab. Raised in Sydney's southwestern suburbs, he attended East Hills Boys High School. Initially starting as a fast bowler, he transitioned to leg-spin in his early teens to prevent shoulder injury. Under the early mentorship of former Australian international wrist-spinner Fawad Ahmed, he developed classical wrist-spin variations, including a well-disguised googly and natural drift.
At 16, Sangha won Player of the Match honors for Team India in the Sydney Thunder Community Nation Cup final at Spotless Stadium, taking 2 for 13. He subsequently represented Australia at the Under-16 level against Pakistan in Melbourne and stood out in the U17 and U19 National Championships. Joining Sydney Thunder as a Development Rookie during BBL 08 (2018–19), he earned the NSW Cricket Basil Sellers Scholarship in 2019 and was selected for Australia U19's tour of Sri Lanka.
At the 2020 ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Sangha finished as Australia's leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets in six matches at an average of 11.46, including a five-wicket haul against Nigeria. He made his senior Big Bash League debut for Sydney Thunder in BBL 10 on December 12, 2020, taking 2 for 26 against the Melbourne Stars. He concluded his breakout BBL season as the tournament's leading spin bowler and third-highest overall wicket-taker with 21 wickets at an average of 16.66.
During the 2021-22 season, Sangha made his domestic red-ball (Sheffield Shield) and 50-over (Marsh One-Day Cup) debuts for New South Wales. In August 2022, he expanded his franchise experience globally after signing with Birmingham Phoenix in England's The Hundred.
Sangha made a memorable T20I debut on August 30, 2023, against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban, after Adam Zampa was late-ruled out with a neck spasm. Taking 4/31 in four overs, he recorded the best figures by an Australian on men's T20I debut in nearly two decades and became the youngest Australian to take four wickets in a Men's T20I. He made his ODI debut weeks later against South Africa in Potchefstroom on September 12 and subsequently served as a traveling reserve during Australia's title-winning 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup campaign in India.
Sangha featured across Australia's white-ball tours of India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, while also representing Australia A against India A in 2025. Domestically, he topped the bowling charts in the 2025 Marsh One-Day Cup with 19 wickets for New South Wales, picked up regular Sheffield Shield five-wicket hauls, and scored a career-best first-class 53 during the 2025–26 season. On the franchise circuit, he played in Major League Cricket (MLC) for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in 2025.
In mid-2026, Sangha was named in Australia's white-ball squad for the tour of Pakistan, featuring in the ODI series at Rawalpindi and Lahore. He signed with the Seattle Orcas for the 2026 Major League Cricket season. By September 2026, he returned to frontline domestic duties for New South Wales at the start of the 2026-27 Marsh One-Day Cup season.
